Chandigarh, Oct 3: Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (HBCH&RC), Punjab, has introduced cashless treatment options for patients holding private health insurance policies across its New Chandigarh and Sangrur campuses. The initiative expands upon the institution’s existing coverage under major government healthcare frameworks.
Director of HBCH&RC Punjab, Dr. Ashish Gulia, affirmed that the facility will allow eligible patients to undergo cancer therapies and related diagnostic procedures without upfront financial payments, as admissible bills will be settled directly with empanelled insurance providers. The institute, a constituent unit of the Tata Memorial Centre under the Department of Atomic Energy, previously catered primarily to beneficiaries of government initiatives such as Ayushman Bharat, ECHS, and ESIC. Official records maintained that approximately 10,000 beneficiaries accessed cashless care under these public schemes during the 2025-26 period.
Dr. Gulia declared that the Sangrur facility stands as the first public-sector healthcare institute in rural Punjab to provide this comprehensive insurance service. Alongside insurance integration, the hospital launched digital innovations including a QR code-based Smart Card top-up system via UPI and an official online donation portal to further assist patient care infrastructure.
