New Delhi, Oct 31: The INDIA opposition alliance organized a mock Parliament session at Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s residence on Saturday to conduct a “public impeachment” of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Presided over by former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar, the proceedings commenced with the national anthem and brought together key opposition leaders, civil society members, and voters claiming deletion from electoral rolls.

Moving the motion, Kharge outlined six specific charges against the CEC, alleging systemic voter deletions under the Special Intensive Revision exercise without parliamentary oversight or adequate transparency. Kharge maintained that constitutional guarantees under Article 326 were being compromised, asserting that the proceedings were organized to protect democratic processes after official notices submitted by opposition lawmakers went unaddressed.

Meira Kumar declared that preserving voting rights remains fundamental to the country’s democratic structure, noting that arbitrary exclusions harm institutional integrity. Senior figures across political lines—including Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, and PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti—participated in the gathering.

Party leaders reaffirmed their demand for comprehensive data regarding recent electoral roll revisions and requested the restoration of administrative transparency. Prior to the formal motion, the assembly observed tributes honoring Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his 151st birth anniversary and former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
