New Delhi: India and the US have completed a readiness assessment of each other’s semiconductor manufacturing capabilities, resources, and supply chains, as part of their collaboration on advancing semiconductor production, conducted by the US Semiconductor Industry Association and the India Electronics Semiconductor Association, according to a statement from the US Commerce Ministry.

The assessment follows the 6th India-US ministerial-level Commercial Dialogue, led by Indian Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and US Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo. Both officials commended the ongoing efforts to establish resilient and sustainable semiconductor supply chains. As part of this initiative, an MoU was signed to formalize a semiconductor supply chain and innovation partnership under the US-India commercial dialogue framework.

Moreover, India and the US inked another MoU on Thursday to expand and diversify the supply chains for critical minerals. The agreement aims to promote cooperation in areas such as exploration, extraction, processing, refining, recycling, and recovery of critical minerals, essential for the development of the semiconductor industry. This is part of the broader India-US initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology (iCET), which seeks to identify immediate industry opportunities and develop long-term strategic partnerships in semiconductor ecosystems.

Goyal and Raimondo also reviewed progress in their strategic trade dialogue, with a particular focus on critical minerals.
