MOSCOW, May 17 — An Indian worker was killed and three others were injured during a massive overnight drone bombardment launched by Ukraine against the Russian capital and surrounding territories on Sunday.
The Indian Embassy in Moscow confirmed the casualties, stating that diplomatic representatives have visited the affected site and met with the surviving workers receiving medical treatment at a local hospital.
External affairs representatives stated that the government is actively collaborating with the employer’s management structure and municipal officials to coordinate emergency assistance for the impacted citizens. The identities of the deceased worker and the injured personnel have not been publicly disclosed. The incident represents part of a broader casualty count, with local administrative boards reporting at least four fatalities and a dozen injuries across the western districts.
The extensive cross-border strike marks one of the most substantial unmanned aerial vehicle operations directed at the Russian capital since the start of the conflict. Regional security reports indicated that Russian air defenses engaged and neutralized more than 500 drones across 14 separate territories. Within the immediate capital perimeter, falling debris caused localized structural damage near a prominent commercial airport and an oil refining complex, though manufacturing operations reportedly continued without technical disruption.
Geographic mapping provided by regional administrators localized the fatalities across distinct suburban sectors. Moscow Governor Andrei Vorobyev stated that a female resident died when a drone struck a private home in Khimki, while two men were killed in the village of Pogorelki, situated roughly 10 kilometers north of the city limits. A fourth fatality was recorded in the Belgorod border region when an explosive device struck a commercial truck.
International defense analysts noted that the escalation follows a sequence of severe aerial bombardments affecting urban centers on both sides of the border. Commenting on the strategic shift, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the long-range operations deep inside Russian territory are entirely justified as a retaliatory measure against ongoing state-sponsored military actions.
