Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, July 2: The Bilaspur Police have dismantled an interstate narcotics syndicate by arresting a 21-year-old drug supplier from Shaheed Bhagat Singh (SBS) Nagar, Punjab. The suspect was allegedly orchestrating a highly organized supply chain network to traffic “chitta” across state lines into Himachal Pradesh. This cross-border enforcement operation followed a detailed tracing of financial and digital evidence connecting local distributors to the main supplier in Punjab.
The enforcement breakthrough originated on June 29 near Swarghat, where local police teams intercepted a 34-year-old resident of Mandi identified as Mohit Kumar. Officers recovered approximately 14 grams of contraband from his possession, leading to an immediate arrest under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and the initiation of an aggressive tracking investigation.
“During the investigation, police thoroughly examined digital, technical and financial evidence and found that the contraband had been supplied from Punjab,” Bilaspur Superintendent of Police Abhishek Dhiman stated. He declared that subsequent intelligence gathering led to the arrest of another associate, 33-year-old Nishant Sharma, on July 1.
The two detained local distributors provided vital operational insights during their custodial interrogation. Both suspects confessed that they had been regularly procuring the illicit substances from the Punjab resident, who managed the supply network alongside several unnamed accomplices.
A specialized police contingent was immediately dispatched to the neighboring state once the supplier’s location was confirmed through technical surveillance. Superintendent Dhiman affirmed that a raid on July 2 resulted in the successful apprehension of the primary suspect, identified as Jashanpreet Singh. He maintained that the department is actively pursuing further leads to identify and arrest remaining affiliates linked to this cross-border network.
