New Delhi, 1 December 2024 – A day after a shocking attack during a public rally, AAP chief and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal criticised the Centre and raised concerns over the capital’s law and order. The incident occurred on Saturday in Malviya Nagar, where a man splashed liquid on Kejriwal during a public event.
At a press conference on Sunday, Kejriwal held Home Minister Amit Shah accountable for Delhi’s safety. “What was my fault? I expected action after raising law and order issues, but instead, I was attacked during my padayatra,” Kejriwal said. While calling the liquid harmless, he pointed out the potential danger, saying, “It could have been harmful.”
The AAP claimed the attacker intended to set Kejriwal on fire. Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj alleged the assailant carried a matchbox and a substance that smelled like spirit, stating, “There was an attempt to burn him alive, but alert volunteers averted the situation.” Bharadwaj further accused the attacker of having links to the BJP.
The BJP dismissed the allegations, calling the incident a “publicity stunt.” Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva questioned the authenticity of the attack, remarking, “Delhiites are asking why such incidents only happen with him.”
The incident has intensified the political blame game, with both parties trading accusations amidst growing concerns over public safety in the national capital.
