DERA BASSI, August 5 — A suspected member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang was injured and arrested following an encounter with Mohali police and the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) in Dera Bassi on Tuesday afternoon.
The accused, identified as Sumit Bishnoi, a native of Rajasthan, was wanted in connection with a murder case in Hanumangarh in May 2025. Acting on a tip-off, police tracked him to a paying guest accommodation on Gulabgarh Road, where he had been hiding.
“When the police team asked him to surrender, he opened fire. Our personnel responded, injuring him in the exchange before arresting him,” a police official said.
Officers recovered firearms and live ammunition from the site. Bishnoi was immediately shifted to the Dera Bassi Sub-Divisional Hospital for treatment.
Police said further investigation is underway to determine the suspect’s movements, associates, and possible involvement in other gang-linked crimes.
