Chandigarh, June 19: The Punjab Government has introduced the historic Jaagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Amendment Act-2026, establishing rigorous legal penalties to prevent future incidents of sacrilege. Speaking at a large Lok Milni gathering at Bihala village in the Chabbewal Assembly constituency, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann stated that the legislation was drafted alongside legal experts to eliminate loop-holes that previously allowed offenders to evade long-term accountability.

The administration noted that past instances of sacrilege deeply affected the public psyche, yet traditional regimes systematically failed to implement adequate statutory protections. The Chief Minister described the new legislation as a strong structural deterrent, asserting that his political opponents are attempting to use religious pretexts to mount smear campaigns because they cannot tolerate the state’s current administrative stability and progressive growth.

Addressing the packed audience in Hoshiarpur, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann declared that his government’s focus remains on delivering genuine welfare rather than exploiting community sentiments.

“Traditional political parties are misusing religion to defame me because they can’t digest that your son is governing Punjab effectively,” the Chief Minister asserted.

He maintained that the overwhelming public response at the event demonstrated the citizens’ continued trust in the state’s transparent governance.

The Chief Minister noted that the administrative shift has disrupted the long-standing political monopoly of traditional groups that historically plundered the state treasury. He highlighted various public-centric accomplishments, including providing free domestic electricity to over 90 percent of households, expanding canal irrigation networks throughout the Kandi region, and purchasing a private thermal plant to secure regional power independence. He assured the gathering that the state exchequer is being utilized efficiently to reverse youth migration and create a developed, prosperous model for every village
