Lucknow, Sept 18: The Uttar Pradesh government is preparing to roll out the ‘Sarathi Didi’ scheme to make travel safer and more convenient for women across urban and rural areas. Initiated under the direction of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the program combines twenty-four-seven trip monitoring with specialized training for female drivers operating cabs, e-rickshaws, and two-wheelers.

To guarantee high-level security, vehicles integrated into the system will feature emergency SOS buttons, live location tracking, and direct integration with local police control rooms. The administration plans to scale this model statewide using the Bharat Taxi framework. Furthermore, the government aims to link Primary Agricultural Credit Societies to extend digital ride-hailing and local delivery services into rural villages, expanding mobility options beyond major city centers.

Beyond passenger safety, the initiative serves as a major employment driver by preparing women for commercial driving careers. Officials declared that empowering women as professional drivers will foster financial independence while providing families with greater peace of mind when daughters and female relatives commute for work or education.
