PANCHKULA, MAY 12 — The Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC) on Monday released results for the Assistant Professor (Psychology) recruitment, revealing a significant gap between vacant positions and qualified applicants. Despite 85 advertised posts, only three candidates successfully cleared the subject knowledge test held on March 22, failing to meet the minimum 35 percent requirement.

The recruitment process, which began in 2024, initially saw 984 candidates sit for the screening test. However, the subsequent written examination proved to be a major hurdle for the vast majority of aspirants. HPSC officials, speaking on the condition of anonymity, stated that the poor performance is largely due to the rigorous nature of the descriptive exam and a noticeable decline in the writing skills of candidates.

“The candidates are not able to clear the subject knowledge test,” an official affirmed. This trend is not isolated to Psychology; similar outcomes have been recorded in other disciplines. Recently, only 17 candidates qualified for 163 Mathematics positions, while the English department saw only 145 qualifiers for 613 available posts.

The recurring inability of candidates to secure minimum passing marks has sparked discussions within the state Assembly regarding the standard of higher education and candidate preparation. For subjects like Economics and Physical Education, the HPSC noted that reserved category seats, particularly for Scheduled Castes, remained largely vacant as no candidates met the qualifying criteria.
