ANANDPUR SAHIB, MAY 6 — Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday characterized the recent twin explosions in Jalandhar and Amritsar as politically motivated attempts to disrupt the state’s peace. Speaking to reporters during his ‘Shukrana Yatra,’ Mann asserted that the incidents were “minor” blasts designed by the BJP to create an atmosphere of fear before the upcoming assembly elections.

The Chief Minister stated that the opposition is employing communal strategies to influence the electorate, citing previous political rhetoric regarding Punjab’s future. He affirmed that these tactics are intended to intimidate the public and destabilize the current administration.

“BJP is a communal party,” Mann stated. “The assembly elections in West Bengal are over and they have said that now it is Punjab’s turn, which shows that these minor blasts are part of their preparations for the Punjab assembly elections.”

Mann further maintained that the newly enacted Jaagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act, 2026, serves as a safeguard against attempts to incite communal conflict. He asserted that the strict provisions of the anti-sacrilege law would prevent individuals from carrying out desecration incidents at the behest of political handlers.

The Chief Minister appealed for an end to such maneuvers, declaring that Punjab remains a peaceful state committed to the welfare of all citizens. He added that an active investigation into the explosions is currently underway to identify the specific individuals involved in the Tuesday night incidents outside the BSF headquarters and the Army Cantonment.
