New Zealand Secures Spot in Women’s T20 World Cup Final

Chandigarh, October 19, 2024: In a thrilling encounter, New Zealand successfully defended a modest total and secured their place in the Women’s T20 World Cup final by defeating the West Indies in the second semi-final. This victory marks New Zealand’s first appearance in the tournament final since 2010.

New Zealand, batting first, posted a total of 128 runs for 9 wickets in their 20 overs. Opener Georgia was the standout performer, scoring 33 runs. In reply, the West Indies struggled, managing only 120 runs for 8 wickets, falling short by just eight runs. Eden Carson led the bowling attack for New Zealand, claiming three crucial wickets to help seal the victory.

In the other semi-final, South Africa showcased their strength by defeating six-time champions Australia by eight wickets. Batting first, Australia set a target of 135 runs after scoring 134 runs for 5 wickets. South Africa chased down the target in 17.2 overs, thanks to a stellar performance by Bosch, who remained unbeaten with a half-century.
