Faridkot, June 29: The Akali leadership is fiercely opposing the new Anti-Beadbi legislation out of fear of facing accountability for past actions, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann asserted on Sunday. Addressing a public gathering at a Lok Milni in Faridkot, the Chief Minister declared that prior leaders had aligned with disruptive elements responsible for the sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, leaving them anxious about the impending legal consequences.

The Chief Minister maintained that past political establishments deliberately distanced themselves from ordinary citizens while focusing primarily on accumulating personal wealth. He affirmed that previous administrators remained confined to luxurious residences and ignored the struggles of the masses, who eventually stripped them of power.

Connecting the legislative move to spiritual duty, the Chief Minister said, “The Almighty blessed me with the wisdom and strength to bring this legislation after detailed consultations with legal experts. This law will act as a strong deterrent against anti-social elements attempting to commit such sacrilegious acts in future and no one will ever be able to indulge in this heinous crime.”

Shifting focus to public welfare, the Chief Minister shared that the administration has successfully enhanced canal irrigation from 22 percent to over 80 percent across the state. He also pointed out that the newly launched Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna is providing cashless medical coverage up to ₹10 lakh per family, with residents already utilizing treatment worth over ₹650 crore.

Detailing upcoming social support measures, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann stated, “From July 1, women beneficiaries above the age of 18 years will receive notifications on their mobile phones regarding the financial assistance of ₹1,000 in the case of women belonging to the general category and ₹1,500 in the case of SC women.” He added that the state has set aside ₹9,300 crore to ensure nearly 97 percent of women in Punjab benefit from the program.

The event was attended by Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan alongside several other prominent dignitaries.
