Calgary, May 6: Khalistani operative and Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) head Gurpatwant Singh Pannu has released a video message threatening Punjabi artist Diljit Dosanjh, declaring that the group will actively oppose his upcoming performances in the United States. The threat follows a Friday night concert in Calgary, Canada, where Dosanjh addressed individuals attempting to display Khalistani flags during his “Aura 2026” world tour.
During the performance, the singer-actor paused to acknowledge the protesters, maintaining his composure while addressing the disruption. “Whoever wants to show flags, keep showing them,” Dosanjh stated while pointing toward the group. The audience reportedly responded with applause when he suggested that those causing significant disturbances should be removed from the venue.
The confrontation has cast a shadow over the thematic focus of the Aura World Tour, which Dosanjh intended as a tribute to Punjabi pioneers. The artist has used his platform, including a recent appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” to discuss the historical significance of his venues. He specifically noted the irony of performing at BC Place in Vancouver, located only 2 km from where the Komagata Maru ship was denied entry in 1914.
“In 1914, our people came to Canada for the first time, but they weren’t allowed to enter,” Dosanjh affirmed during his set. He further declared that the gathering of 55,000 fans in a stadium so close to the original site of exclusion served as a testament to the community’s resilience. He credited the sacrifices of Ghadar Party revolutionaries, such as Kartar Singh Sarabha and Baba Sohan Singh Bhakna, for the success and presence of the Punjabi diaspora today.
