Chandigarh, 31st October 2024— Punjab Engineering College (PEC) has been awarded a ₹7.14 crore grant under the Union Ministry of Science and Technology’s Promotion of University Research and Scientific Excellence (PURSE) project, aimed at advancing scientific research and innovation in India’s university sector.

Reports said that this prestigious grant places PEC among just nine institutions selected across the country this year.

The PURSE initiative, launched in 2009, focuses on building research capacity within high-performing universities to foster a robust research ecosystem and support their R&D infrastructure. PEC’s selection underscores its commitment to pioneering research and innovation, officials noted.

“This achievement reflects the collaborative effort of our engineering and science departments,” said Dr. Vasundhara Singh, principal investigator for the project and professor of chemistry in the applied sciences department. Singh, who played a pivotal role in securing the funding, mentioned the impact the grant will have on advancing research within the college.

The grant will enable PEC and other selected institutions to focus on developing solutions in critical fields, including human health, clean energy, drug discovery utilizing human organ-on-chip technology, climate response strategies, and applications in quantum technology.
