New Delhi, July 8: Prime Minister Narendra Modi finished his three-day state visit to Indonesia on Wednesday, shifting the next leg of his diplomatic tour toward Australia. The visit concluded with a strong emphasis on expanding bilateral security and digital trade frameworks between the two largest economies in the Indian Ocean region. Before the Prime Minister’s departure, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto personally escorted him to the airport following a joint cultural event in Yogyakarta.

The Prime Minister declared that the diplomatic outcomes of the summit would directly reshape the future of the regional alliance.

“As I conclude my visit to Indonesia, I leave with immense satisfaction at the outcomes achieved as far as the future of our partnership is concerned. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the people of Indonesia and to President Prabowo Subianto for his exceptional warmth and personal commitment to taking India-Indonesia relations to new heights.”

The diplomatic talks led to several new structural agreements in emerging technologies, advanced manufacturing, and defense systems. PM Modi affirmed that the foundational framework of their partnership had successfully shifted toward future-focused industries.

“This visit has opened new avenues for cooperation in defence and security, maritime collaboration, critical and emerging technologies, artificial intelligence, digital innovation and capacity building.”

The final day of the July 6-8 state visit began with both leaders inaugurating the preservation and conservation work at the UNESCO World Heritage Prambanan Temple Compounds. This followed an intense series of high-level meetings in Jakarta where the two nations updated their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The visit served as a continuation of executive-level talks that began when President Prabowo traveled to India as the Chief Guest for the 76th Republic Day celebrations in January 2025.

Security issues remained central to the discussions, with both capitals resolving to broaden their defensive umbrella. The two sides finalized the elevation of defense collaboration through specific hardware partnerships, including the BrahMos missile system and the Air-to-Air Missile Cooperation Agreement. On the economic front, the nations welcomed a strategic joint venture between Steel Authority of India Limited and PT Krakatau Steel to explore a stainless-steel slab manufacturing facility in Indonesia, alongside advanced testing of local currency transactions to bypass third-party conversion friction.
