Chandigarh, 16 January 2025: Punjab witnessed bone-chilling cold on Wednesday with minimum temperatures plunging to around 2 degrees Celsius. Many districts remained blanketed in fog from morning until evening.

Light to moderate rain greeted parts of the state Thursday morning, adding to the ongoing spell of dense fog in several regions, the Meteorological Department reported.

Moga’s Budh Singh Wala recorded the lowest temperature at 2.2 degrees Celsius, while Fazilka, Ferozepur, and Amritsar registered 3.3, 3.9, and 2.8 degrees respectively.

Despite brief sunshine in the afternoons, morning chills and cold winds in the evenings continue to trouble residents.

An orange alert has been issued for January 16 and 17 due to dense fog, with a yellow alert to follow in subsequent days.

Authorities have urged residents to avoid outdoor activities unless necessary.

Though recent sunshine has slightly raised Punjab’s maximum temperatures, intermittent rainfall remains in the forecast, promising further weather disruptions across the region.
