Hoshiarpur, July 6: A four-year-old girl, the daughter of seasonal migrant laborers from Uttar Pradesh, died late Sunday night after being attacked by a pack of stray dogs on the Oharpur–Basi Jalal link road in Hoshiarpur. The tragic incident occurred while the child’s parents were engaged in paddy transplantation work in a nearby agricultural field.
The victim, identified as Gungun, had been left to rest under a tree near a tube-well motor, approximately 100 meters away from where her parents, Ram Jeevan and Preeti, were working. Around 7 pm, a pack of stray dogs suddenly set upon the child and dragged her a short distance before family members, alerted by her screams, could intervene.
“The family rushed to the spot immediately upon hearing the cries and found the child critically injured,” stated a local police official. “She was immediately transported to the Government Hospital in Tanda before being transferred to a specialized facility in Hoshiarpur due to the severity of her condition.”
Despite intensive medical intervention, the young girl succumbed to her injuries during treatment. The family, originally from Dhyanpur village in the Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh, had relocated to Basi Jalal village temporarily for agricultural employment.
The incident has prompted serious discussions among nearby communities regarding rural safety.
“The stray dog population has grown considerably, turning into a significant safety concern for everyone living and working in these fields,” declared a local village representative.
