ZIRAKPUR, 7 February 2025 – A truck driver was robbed of his vehicle, ₹4,500 in cash, and his mobile phone by unidentified men in Zirakpur, with police registering a case under Sections 304 (snatching), 126(2) (wrongful restraint), and 140(3) (kidnapping) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The robbery took place around 1 am when Mohammad Farman, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, was en route to Mandi Gobindgarh with a scrap-loaded truck.

The miscreants, traveling in a Maruti Alto, intercepted the truck, blocked its path, and forced Farman and his conductor into their car.

“They threatened us, took my mobile phone and ₹4,500, and later abandoned us in Banur before fleeing with the truck,” Farman told police.

Within 24 hours, police recovered the stolen vehicle near Ghanaur, Patiala, using GPS tracking, CCTV footage, and human intelligence. Investigators said the robbers disabled the GPS tracker before abandoning the truck.

“The accused threw away the tracker while escaping, but we located the vehicle using CCTV cameras,” a police official said. “We suspect they are locals and will arrest them soon.”

The Maruti Alto used in the crime was also traced through CCTV footage, with records showing it had changed ownership four times. Police teams are conducting raids at potential hideouts to track down the suspects.
