Two Killed in Amritsar Firing Incidents

Police officer and local youth dead in separate attacks

Amritsar, Sept 18: In a tragic turn of events in Amritsar, two separate shooting incidents in the early hours and late hours of the night have claimed the lives of an assistant sub-inspector and a local youth. Police authorities have registered cases regarding both attacks and initiated investigations.

Assistant Sub-Inspector Harjit Singh, a resident of Tarn Taran, lost his life while performing his duty near the Bhagtanwala grain market under the Gate Hakima police station. Deployed with the Police Control Room team, the officer was targeted around three in the morning by two unidentified individuals riding a motorcycle. Harjit Singh sustained three gunshot wounds and was rushed to a nearby private hospital, where medical staff declared him dead upon arrival.

Shedding light on the official response, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of the dedicated officer who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving the public. He affirmed that the Punjab government has announced an ex-gratia financial assistance of one crore rupees for the grieving family, along with an additional insurance support amount of one crore rupees.

In a distinct incident occurring in the Surta Singh locality under the Islamabad police station on Thursday night, a young resident named Sahilpreet Singh was killed. Sahilpreet, who resided in Harkrishan Nagar, had gone out for a routine stroll after dinner when two assailants on a scooter fired shots at him before fleeing the scene. Officers maintaining law and order have registered a case to identify and apprehend the culprits responsible for the crime.
