NEW DELHI, SEPT 18: India has asserted that maintaining robust maritime security is fundamental to preserving international peace, global security, and economic prosperity. Addressing the United Nations, India’s Permanent Representative, Ambassador Harish Parvathaneni, called for a strengthened global mechanism to safeguard critical sea lanes and prevent future operational disruptions.

Ambassador Parvathaneni stated that recent blockades and security issues across primary global trade corridors have demonstrated the extreme vulnerability of international supply lines. He maintained that open, secure, and resilient maritime routes are essential for sustaining global commerce, adding that cooperative international efforts are needed to protect these vital shipping channels from emerging threats.

The senior diplomat affirmed India’s commitment to supporting multilateral frameworks that foster maritime safety and navigational freedom. He declared that a unified, rule-based approach among nations remains the most effective path to ensuring stability across open waters and preventing economic shocks worldwide.
