Chandigarh, Dec 8 — Alba Smeriglio has assumed charge as the British Deputy High Commissioner for Chandigarh, taking on responsibility for the UK’s diplomatic engagement in Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand and the Union Territory.
Smeriglio, a career diplomat, said she was “honoured to serve in a region with deep people-to-people ties with the UK.” Her arrival marks a key transition in the High Commission’s northern outreach.
She has served in multiple international postings, including Montserrat, where she led programmes and operations, and in other assignments across the Caribbean and South Asia. In London, Smeriglio worked on portfolios related to economic growth, democratic governance, security cooperation and human rights.
She holds degrees from the London School of Economics, the University of Aberdeen and the University of Siena.
