GENEVA, April 16: The UN human rights office has raised serious concerns over the ongoing Israeli military operations in Lebanon, which have killed at least 71 civilians—including 14 women and nine children—since a ceasefire took effect in November, Reuters reported Tuesday.
“Israeli military operations in Lebanon continue to kill and injure civilians, and destroy civilian infrastructure,” said Thameen Al-Kheetan, spokesperson for the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), during a press briefing in Geneva.
The agency said approximately 92,000 people remain displaced in Lebanon due to continued hostilities.
“We are calling for investigations into all allegations of violations… Each and every military action where civilians are killed must be investigated,” Al-Kheetan added. He stressed that any escalation threatens not just Lebanon and Israel but the stability of the wider region.
The UN call comes amid growing fears that the fragile truce may collapse, further intensifying humanitarian concerns in southern Lebanon.
