Chandigarh, August 5: The Punjab Legislative Assembly passed a resolution during its session in Chandigarh, recommending that the Union Government provide consumers with a choice between pure petrol and E-20 ethanol-blended fuel at filling stations.
Winding up the debate on the floor of the House, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann stated that the official policy regarding blended fuel requires careful technical evaluation and consumer safeguards to protect vehicle owners from unexpected maintenance expenses.
The resolution formally requested a reduction in the retail price of E-20 fuel, taking into account the variation in energy density and efficiency compared to standard petrol.
Addressing the assembly, the Chief Minister maintained that vehicle owners across the state have expressed concerns regarding fuel consumption and long-term engine performance.
“This is a matter of grave concern for every citizen of the country. E-20 ethanol-blended petrol has been forced upon vehicle owners without any proper research, scientific study or consultation,” Chief Minister Mann declared during the session.
He affirmed that public petitions have been organized to communicate these observations directly to central authorities, urging a balanced approach that maintains consumer flexibility while supporting national energy goals.
