Jalandhar, September 23: Around 1,500 girls from flood-affected areas of Punjab have benefited from subsidised professional training under an initiative of the National Institute of Information and Beauty (NIIB), aimed at promoting skill development and economic independence among young women.
The initiative was highlighted during NIIB’s 15th Annual Convocation held at CT Group of Institutions, Shahpur, where more than 1,500 students from over 30 NIIB branches across North India were awarded degrees, diplomas and certificates.
A major announcement at the convocation was the launch of a ₹5.5-crore scholarship programme for deserving and economically weaker girl students. The programme provides subsidised training in beauty and other professional courses, with the objective of equipping young women with skills for employment and self-employment.
Punjab State Commission for Women Chairperson Raj Lali Gill appreciated NIIB’s efforts towards women’s empowerment and vocational education. Punjab State Observer Gayatri Bishnoi and Punjab Tourism and Cultural Affairs Advisor Deepak Bali also praised the institute’s emphasis on practical, career-oriented training.
NIIB Managing Director and AAP state spokesperson Dr Pooja Singh congratulated the graduating students and said the institute would continue to broaden access to skill-based professional education. NIIB CEO Ishan Singh also encouraged the students to utilise their training to build sustainable careers.
According to NIIB, around 1,500 girls from flood-affected areas have already completed beauty courses under the initiative and are moving towards employment and financial independence.
Punjab Khadi Board Chairman Kaku Aluwalia and Jalandhar Cantt constituency in-charge Rajwinder Kaur Thiara were among those present. Playback singer Jyoti Nooran gave a special performance, while NIIB students presented cultural programmes showcasing their talent.
