Zirakpur, March 12 — A day after a 23-year-old woman from Zirakpur was found dead near Banur in Rajpura, police arrested one of the four accused on Tuesday.
The Zirakpur police had booked four men—Raj, Amandeep, Rohit Kumar, and Sultan Mohammad—all residents of Banur. Rohit has been arrested, and police have seized a Hyundai i20 car (HP09B0467), allegedly used in the abduction.
The victim, a resident of Badal Colony, had been missing since March 7. Her father told police that Sultan Mohammad had been harassing her for months and, with the help of his accomplices, kidnapped and murdered her.
After police informed the victim’s family, they reached the Rajpura police station and later protested outside the Zirakpur police station, demanding the arrest of all accused. Sources mentioned that the victim had multiple injuries, though the exact cause of death is yet to be confirmed.
“A murder case has been registered against four persons,” SP (Rural) Manpreet Singh said. Charges under Sections 140(1) (kidnapping), 103 (murder), and 3(5) (act done by several persons) of the BNS have been filed.
