UN Warns of Rising Health Crisis in Gaza

Gaza, April 5: The United Nations warned that worsening conditions in Gaza are fueling a public health emergency, with sanitation breakdowns and dwindling food stocks posing severe risks to the population, Anadolu reported.

“Sanitation conditions across Gaza are likely worsening to public health risks,” said UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric at a press briefing, citing updates from humanitarian teams on the ground.

He pointed to flea and mite infestations at three makeshift displacement sites in Al-Mawasi, which are causing rashes and other skin conditions. “Treatment supplies will only be available once the crossings are again open for the entry of supplies,” Dujarric added.

The World Food Program has also reported that food supplies are nearing depletion. “Assistance programs that they are running are gradually shutting down,” Dujarric said.

Responding to reports of looting in the besieged enclave, he remarked, “It’s a clear sign of desperation. I mean, people in Gaza know that the gates are closed. People in Gaza know that no food is coming in. People are desperate.”
