Panchkula, April 24: Two people were killed in separate hit-and-run incidents in Panchkula over the past 24 hours, prompting police investigations into both cases.

In the first case, a 60-year-old woman, Satya Devi, was killed during her morning walk after being struck by an unidentified vehicle in Chandimandir on Wednesday around 5 am.

Her son, Laxmi Narayan, a labourer, told police that he learned of the accident from villagers.

“She had gone out for her usual walk when the incident occurred,” he said in his complaint.

Satya Devi was rushed to the civil hospital in Sector 6, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.

Chandimandir police have registered a case under Sections 281 (rash driving) and 106 (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

“Efforts are on to identify and arrest the driver,” said an officer from the local police station.

In the second incident, a 41-year-old labourer, Anwar, died after being hit by a speeding army truck in Old Panchkula on Monday evening.

Originally from Bihar, Anwar was employed at an under-construction site in Sector 1.

According to the complaint filed by Hanish Tayal, a civil engineer from Sector 27, the two had gone shopping for groceries when the accident occurred around 7 pm.

“I was making the payment when Anwar crossed the road. A fast-moving army truck coming from the Zirakpur side hit him and fled,” Tayal stated.

Anwar suffered critical head injuries and was rushed to the Sector 6 civil hospital. He succumbed to his injuries during treatment on Tuesday.

A case under Sections 106 and 281 of the BNS has been registered in the matter. Police are trying to trace the truck and identify the driver.
