New Delhi, May 5:— The National Commission for Women (NCW) has extended support to Himanshi Narwal, the wife of Lieutenant Vinay Narwal, who was killed in the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, condemning the online trolling she has faced over her public appeal for communal harmony.

Following the attack, Himanshi urged people not to vilify Muslims or Kashmiris in response to the incident. “We do not want people going after Muslims and Kashmiris,” she said on Thursday.

Her remarks, made in the wake of her husband’s killing, sparked a wave of social media backlash. Responding to this, the NCW issued a statement on X, calling the trolling “unfortunate” and urging people to respect differing viewpoints even in times of national grief.

“After the death of Lieutenant Vinay Narwal, the way his wife Himanshi Narwal is being criticised on social media in relation to one of her statements is unfortunate,” the NCW said.

The commission acknowledged that Himanshi’s comments may not align with public sentiment in the aftermath of the attack, but emphasized that dissent and debate must remain within constitutional boundaries.

“The country is hurt and angry over the brutal terror act,” the NCW said, “but it is not right to troll a woman on the basis of her ideological expression or personal life.”

Lieutenant Narwal was reportedly asked about his religion before being shot dead in the Pahalgam attack—an incident that has triggered widespread outrage and mourning across the nation.

The NCW’s response underlines a call for compassion and restraint, urging citizens to uphold civil discourse even in emotionally charged moments.
