CHANDIGARH, May 9 – As tensions with Pakistan continue to rise, the Punjab Cabinet on Friday approved funding for the deployment of anti-drone systems along the international border to counter threats from terrorism and cross-border drug smuggling.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann made the announcement at a press conference following a cabinet meeting in Chandigarh, stating that nine anti-drone systems would be positioned along the 532-kilometre stretch from Pathankot to Abohar.

“The BSF has already got some anti-drone systems, and now we’re adding to that capability,” Mann said.

However, he did not disclose the total funds allocated for the procurement.

The chief minister, who refrained from taking questions during the briefing, also said that cabinet ministers from border districts have been stationed in their respective areas to ensure the smooth supply of essential commodities and to prevent hoarding or black marketing.

In another significant move, the cabinet also cleared the installation of advanced jamming systems in 13 prisons across Punjab.

The decision is aimed at curbing illegal communications and enhancing prison security.

These developments come amid increasing security concerns in the wake of India’s military action under Operation Sindoor, targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and PoK earlier this week.
