New Delhi, June 9 – Delhi’s IGI Airport police have arrested a man accused of orchestrating an illegal immigration attempt involving forged Schengen visas and counterfeit flight tickets for three men from Punjab who were promised jobs in Spain, officials said Sunday.
The accused, Kamaldeep Singh (25), a resident of Amritsar, had been on the run since the trio’s arrest at Delhi airport on May 29. He was eventually tracked down and apprehended in Kurukshetra, police confirmed.
According to officials, Kamaldeep worked alongside another agent, Sonu Walia, who has already been arrested by Punjab Police and is currently lodged in Gurdaspur jail.
“Three passengers from Amritsar arrived at IGI Airport to board a flight to Madrid. Airline staff identified their tickets as fake and flagged their documents to immigration. Upon examination by a Swiss liaison officer, their Schengen visas were also found to be counterfeit,” said a senior police official.
The passengers, whose identities have not been disclosed, were immediately detained. During interrogation, they revealed they had paid ₹17 lakh in total to Kamaldeep and Walia in exchange for job placements in Spain and travel arrangements.
The Schengen visa enables non-EU nationals to travel freely across multiple European countries that are part of the Schengen zone. Forged visas, if undetected, can pose serious international security concerns, officials added.
Following a formal complaint from airport authorities, an FIR was registered, and an investigation was launched. “Kamaldeep Singh went into hiding after the incident but was successfully located and arrested. Efforts are ongoing to secure Sonu Walia’s formal arrest and uncover the broader human trafficking racket,” the official said.
Police are probing the possibility of a wider network operating across multiple states, and more arrests are likely as the investigation deepens.
