Mohali, June 11 — Responding to mounting public grievances over deteriorating infrastructure and poor sanitation across several sectors under the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA), the administration has moved to tighten civic oversight by assigning junior engineers (JEs) to directly monitor cleanliness and maintenance work.
Chief Administrator Vishesh Sarangal stated that GMADA is fully accountable for the upkeep of the public spaces it has developed. “It is GMADA’s responsibility to ensure the cleanliness and upkeep of areas it has developed. No leniency will be shown towards officers or staff found neglecting these duties,” he asserted.
To bolster accountability, Anmol Singh Dhaliwal, Additional Chief Administrator-2, GMADA, has been appointed as the nodal officer responsible for overseeing sanitation and infrastructure standards across GMADA’s urban estates. Dhaliwal will supervise field inspections and receive routine reports from sector-wise designated junior engineers.
As per the directive, JEs posted in their respective sectors will regularly inspect roads, parks, green belts, and other civic assets. They will also coordinate with sanitation contractors to uphold hygiene standards and submit periodic performance updates to the nodal officer.
Sarangal has also issued detailed instructions to internal staff involved in civic maintenance, cautioning that future lapses will be met with disciplinary consequences. “Any official found guilty of dereliction of duty will be dealt with firmly,” he warned.
Clarifying jurisdictional responsibilities, Sarangal noted that many parts of Mohali do not fall under the Municipal Corporation, thereby placing the full responsibility of post-development services on GMADA. “Our responsibility doesn’t end with land development. We must also address post-development issues such as sanitation and infrastructure to ensure that residents living in these sectors receive essential civic services,” he said.
The sectors covered under this directive include areas across Mohali and New Chandigarh, such as Sectors 81 to 126, including Aerocity, IT City, and Sectors 1 to 24 in New Chandigarh.
