CHANDIGARH, July 12 —Chandigarh Power Distribution Limited (CPDL) has waived the requirement for domestic consumers to submit a test report from a licensed electrical contractor for loads up to 10 kilowatts.
The change allows applicants to obtain domestic electricity connections by submitting a self-declaration and a self-assessed load estimate attached to the Application and Agreement (A&A) form. Officials said the new format is user-friendly and does not require technical assistance to complete.
“This step is part of our ongoing effort to make the process consumer-friendly and less cumbersome,” a CPDL spokesperson said. “It removes the additional burden on consumers and aligns Chandigarh with practices already adopted in Punjab and Haryana.”
Until now, residents applying for a new domestic connection were required to furnish a contractor-issued test report certifying the safety and specifications of their internal wiring. That report is now optional. “Consumers who still wish to provide a licensed contractor’s test report may continue to do so,” the spokesperson added.
The decision has been welcomed by residents, particularly homeowners and small-scale developers, who see it as a significant step toward streamlining service delivery.
