Shimla, Aug 10: Himachal Pradesh is preparing for a spell of heavy to very heavy rainfall through August 15, as the State Meteorological Department has issued orange and yellow weather alerts for several districts starting August 11. This forecast signals heightened rainfall activity across the state.
The department expects light to moderate rain with intermittent heavy to very heavy showers until August 15. During this period, maximum temperatures are likely to decrease by 2°C to 3°C, while minimum temperatures should remain near normal levels.
On August 11, orange alerts for heavy to very heavy rain cover Kangra, Chamba, and Mandi districts. Simultaneously, yellow warnings are in effect for Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, and Solan, where heavy rain is predicted at isolated locations.
These alerts continue on August 12 with orange warnings maintained for Kangra, Chamba, and Mandi, while Una, Bilaspur, and Sirmaur face yellow alerts anticipating isolated heavy rainfall.
On August 13, orange alerts extend to Kangra, Sirmaur, and Mandi. Meanwhile, Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Chamba, Kullu, and Shimla are under yellow warnings for heavy rain.
August 14 sees orange warnings for Kangra, Kullu, Shimla, Sirmaur, and Mandi, with Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Solan, and Chamba under yellow alerts.
In the past 24 hours, the state witnessed heavy rain in isolated pockets and light to moderate showers elsewhere. Kangra received the highest rainfall with 68.4 mm, followed by Palampur (52 mm), Sarahan in Shimla district (25 mm), Dharamshala (16.8 mm), Kufri (11.2 mm), Bilaspur (10.4 mm), Kasauli (10 mm), Shimla (9 mm), Una (5.4 mm), and Mandi (4.4 mm).
