Ludhiana, October 31 — Amid a steady rise in dengue infections, the Ludhiana health department has identified 29 localities across the district as dengue hotspots, officials said on Thursday.

According to district epidemiologist Dr. Sheetal Narang, a locality is declared a hotspot when it reports more than two confirmed dengue cases. “Fifteen new cases were reported on Thursday, taking the district tally to 361,” she said. Of these, 35 remain active.

The identified hotspots include Gurdev Nagar, Model Town, SBS Nagar, Dugri (Phase 1 and 2), Vishal Nagar, Karnail Singh Nagar, Ambedkar Nagar, Baba Deep Singh Nagar, Chandani Chowk, Jassian Road, Salem Tabri, Rahon Road, Guru Vihar, Issa Nagri, Prem Nagar, Bholla Colony, Jaspal Nagar, Agar Nagar, Barewal, Habibganj, Santokh Nagar, Preet Nagar, Gurunanak Dev Nagar, Atam Nagar, Chander Nagar, Mini Rose Garden, Vijay Nagar Dholewal, and Rishi Nagar.

Civil Surgeon Dr. Ramandeep Kaur urged residents to stay alert and follow preventive measures. “Dengue spreads through the bite of an infected Aedes mosquito, which breeds in clean stagnant water found in coolers, flower pots, tyres, and open containers,” she noted.

Under the campaign ‘Har Shukarvaar – Dengue Te Vaar’, residents have been urged to inspect their homes and surroundings every Friday to destroy potential breeding sites. “People should keep their surroundings clean, change stored water regularly, and use mosquito repellents or nets,” she added.

Dr. Kaur said free dengue testing and treatment facilities are available at all government hospitals and health centres. “The health department is fully prepared to handle any situation. All hospitals are on alert mode with sufficient medicines, testing kits, and platelets available,” she said.
