Chandigarh, Sept 16: The Haryana government has temporarily relaxed the mandatory rural service requirement for government college teachers seeking promotions under the Career Advancement Scheme. This strategic move opens a dedicated one-year window, enabling eligible faculty members across the state to have their long-pending career advancement cases processed smoothly without the mandatory rural posting constraint.
Official directives issued by the Additional Chief Secretary of the Higher Education Department instructed all government college principals that the relaxation takes immediate effect from the date of the order’s issuance. The relaxation directly addresses administrative bottlenecks that previously delayed faculty advancement to senior scale and selection grades.
Representatives from the academic community expressed strong support for the policy adjustment. Leaders from the Haryana Government College Teachers’ Association affirmed that the temporary waiver provides crucial relief to approximately 1,400 faculty members who faced promotional delays. Association officials noted that the requirement had been a primary concern raised during direct consultations with Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda earlier this year.
Faculty members maintained that the outcome reflects constructive dialogue between academic bodies and the state administration.
