Gurugram, Sept 16: Six major transit corridors across Gurugram are set to undergo a comprehensive digital transformation as part of the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority’s Smart City initiative. The project introduces advanced digital surveillance, automated traffic monitoring, and direct emergency response infrastructure designed to streamline traffic management and lessen reliance on manual police enforcement.
Selected stretches, including MG Road, Hamilton Court Road, Vyapar Kendra Road, and key links around Signature Tower and Sector 29, will feature integrated artificial intelligence cameras linked to the Integrated Command and Control Centre. GMDA officials declared that monitoring will operate continuously via the authority’s dedicated optical-fibre network, with full deployment anticipated within four months of final tender approval.
The smart model roads will incorporate Public Address Systems at busy intersections and commercial hubs, allowing authorities to broadcast real-time updates during severe weather or severe traffic disruptions. Variable Message Signboards positioned along the corridors will deliver immediate notifications regarding localized congestion, waterlogging, or diversions, aiding motorists in selecting alternative routes.
To enhance commuter safety, Emergency Call Points equipped with high-visibility reflective markers and flashing red lights will be installed along the routes. The push-button call points enable citizens to instantly connect with police or command center personnel without relying on cellular networks during emergencies, marking a major step toward digitized urban safety.
