Patiala, November 4: Hundreds of devotees gathered at the Polo Ground in Patiala on Tuesday evening to witness the Punjab government’s light and sound demonstration ‘Hind Di Chadar’, dedicated to the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. The 45-minute presentation, portraying the Guru’s life, teachings, and sacrifice, moved the audience with its visual and musical narration.

The show recreated the story of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s supreme sacrifice alongside his disciples Bhai Mati Das Ji, Bhai Sati Das Ji, and Bhai Dayala Ji at Chandni Chowk in Delhi, where they were executed for defending the rights and religious freedom of others. Their martyrdom was depicted through scenes reflecting the Guru’s message of peace, justice, and compassion.
During the event, the Dhadi Jatha of Sukhdev Singh Booh performed ballads narrating the Guru’s martyrdom. The congregation, including elders, youth, and children, repeatedly chanted “Dhan Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji” and raised slogans of “Jaikara” in his remembrance.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Balbir Singh, who attended the event, said the state government under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was marking the 350th anniversary “as a humble tribute to the Guru’s legacy.” He said the government intended to take the message of Guru Tegh Bahadur’s teachings to every part of Punjab and beyond.
“The sacrifice of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji was not for one faith but for the protection of all humanity,” Dr. Singh said. “Through this show, we hope to remind future generations of his courage, compassion, and the values of coexistence he stood for.”

He added that this light and sound show marked the beginning of a series of state-level events. The next phase will include major commemorations at Sri Anandpur Sahib from November 23 to 25, along with religious programs at 36 gurdwaras in Patiala district associated with the Guru’s visit.
The minister said a grand Nagar Kirtan would start from Talwandi Sabo and reach Patiala on November 21, where it would receive a “Guard of Honour” in every district along its route.

Several MLAs, local officials, and public representatives were present at the event, along with Patiala Deputy Commissioner Dr. Preeti Yadav and SSP Varun Sharma. The audience described the show as a “spiritually uplifting experience,” praising its portrayal of Guru Sahib’s philosophy of peace, tolerance, and brotherhood.
