Chandigarh, November 9, 2025 — The Bhagwant Singh Mann-led Punjab government has launched a major land redevelopment push, reclaiming government-owned plots lying vacant for decades and turning them into development hubs. The move aims to generate new employment and end what officials described as the “land mafia raj” that flourished under previous administrations.
Large tracts of land owned by PUDA, GLADA, and other departments — long encroached or left unused — are now being redeveloped under the government’s new development policy. A modern mandi is being built on the old PUDA colony land in Budhlada, while the disused PunAgro land in Ludhiana will house an international-level convention centre.
Officials said the projects are part of the government’s broader plan to make public assets productive and transparent. “This is people’s land — it must serve public purpose, not private pockets,” said an official in the urban development department.
The Mann government said the initiative reflects its commitment to transparent governance and inclusive growth, ensuring that “no public resource remains in the hands of vested interests.”
