Ropar, Dec 2: A kidnapping attempt on a physically disabled trader was thwarted in Nangal on Monday after the suspects’ car crashed during the alleged abduction, police said. Officers registered a case under Sections 140(4) and 3(5) of the BNS.

Police identified the accused as Anesh of Malerkotla’s Killa Rehmadgarh and Vishal Kumar of Bhabhor Sahib village. Both had arrived in Nangal to take part in a wrestling competition. “They appear to have carried out the crime in an intoxicated state,” a police official directly said.

In his complaint, Gulshan Rai, 64, told police that the two youths stopped beside him and offered a ride. “The moment I got into the car, they forced me to stay inside and demanded money,” he said. The vehicle, heading towards the Himachal border, veered out of control and crashed into a pole, leaving one suspect stunned inside the car.

Rai ran back towards the main market and informed passersby, who accompanied him to the accident spot and helped detain the accused. Police later arrested the second suspect after he tried to escape following the collision.
