CHANDIGARH, Dec 13 — The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation seized 12 vehicles belonging to second-hand car sellers at the authorised Sunday car bazaar in Manimajra after finding violations of parking norms during a surprise inspection on Friday, officials said.

The action was taken after enforcement teams found that several sellers had failed to remove their vehicles after market hours and were parked without mandatory paid parking slips at the Manimajra paid parking site.

Acting on directions from MC Commissioner Amit Kumar, officials impounded the vehicles when owners or their representatives were unable to produce valid parking receipts.

“The Sunday car bazaar is an authorised activity, but participants must strictly follow the prescribed rules,” an MC official said. “Failure to comply with paid parking procedures and time restrictions will invite action.”

The civic body said the enforcement drive was carried out to prevent misuse of public parking spaces and curb unauthorised commercial activity in designated paid parking zones.

The MC said further action would be initiated against violators in accordance with relevant laws and established procedures.
