Ludhiana, Jan 13: The ongoing BC gang war has reached the doorstep of a Punjabi family in Abbotsford, resulting in the death of Navpreet Singh Dhaliwal. Authorities have classified the Friday morning shooting as a premeditated hit linked to the region’s illicit drug trade.
Responding to calls at 12:38 am, Abbotsford police discovered the 28-year-old with critical gunshot wounds inside his home. IHIT investigators took over the case shortly after, citing the victim’s documented history with local enforcement and his 2024 arrest during a large-scale narcotics probe.
Dony Bal, a figure associated with several recent killings involving Punjabi nationals, took to social media to claim the hit. He noted that the shooting was a preemptive strike against Dhaliwal.
Family members in Punjab expressed shock over the brutality of the home invasion. Mehar Singh Dhaliwal, the cousin of the victim’s grandfather, recounted the harrowing details shared by the family in Canada.
“His mother was at home when they broke in,” Mehar Singh Dhaliwal mentioned. “Navpreet was focused on his studies when he was targeted.”
The victim’s father moved to Canada in 1995, two years before Navpreet was born. While the family maintained ties to Sudhar village, locals noted that Navpreet rarely visited his ancestral home during his adult years.
Police records show that Dhaliwal had been under strict conditions since his release following a 2022 drug investigation. Investigators continue to process evidence from the Siskin Drive scene as part of the broader inquiry into the British Columbia gang conflict.
