Ludhiana, Jan 21: British Member of Parliament Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi was conferred with the prestigious Sarkar-e-Khalsa Award for his global contributions to the Punjabi community and his family’s extensive humanitarian work during a ceremony in Ludhiana.
The event, organized by DIB Events Dubai at the Nirwana Hotel on Wednesday, recognized Dhesi’s role as the Chairman of the Defence Committee in the UK and his family’s relief efforts during the Ferozepur floods last year. Since the MP could not attend in person, his father, Jaspal Singh Dhesi, and Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee member Parmjeet Singh Raipur accepted the honor on his behalf.
Former Punjab Chief Minister and current Member of Parliament Charanjit Singh Channi attended as a special guest. Channi noted the importance of celebrating those who dedicated their lives to public welfare and community representation.
“This initiative to honour personalities who have rendered exceptional services to society is highly commendable,” Channi said during the proceedings.
The gathering featured a significant presence of spiritual and political leadership. Singh Sahib Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj, Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, served as the spiritual guest, while Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan attended as the chief guest. Baba Gurjeet Singh Nanaksar also participated as a special invitee.
Speakers at the function mentioned that such ceremonies are essential for preserving Sikh values and encouraging a spirit of leadership among the global Punjabi diaspora. They further noted that the awards serve as a bridge to unite the community across international borders.
