AMRITSAR, JAN 23 – The National Investigation Agency conducted extensive searches across 10 locations in Amritsar, Tarn Taran, and Gurdaspur on Thursday. These operations are part of the ongoing investigation into the grenade attack that took place at an Amritsar temple in 2025.
During the course of the raids, the agency successfully recovered various pieces of incriminating material. Officials noted that the seized items included mobile phones, digital devices, and several important documents which are now under scrutiny.
The case pertains to an explosion that occurred on March 14 last year outside the Thakur Dwara Sanatan Temple, located at Khandwala along the Sher Shah Road. Following the initial investigation by the state police, the anti-terror agency took over the probe and uncovered a deeper conspiracy.
The NIA mentioned that the attack was executed following instructions from handlers based abroad. Investigations noted that these foreign-based individuals have been actively involved in recruiting and funding persons within India to carry out such acts of violence.
“The foreign-based handlers had been recruiting and funding individuals in India to carry out grenade attacks,” the agency directly said in a statement regarding the findings of the probe.
The investigation identified two individuals, Vishal and Gursidak, as those responsible for hurling the grenade at the temple. While Vishal is currently in custody, officials noted that Gursidak has since passed away.
The explosives used in the incident were allegedly supplied by Sharanjeet Kumar of Qadian, Batala. Sharanjeet had previously attempted to evade authorities by fleeing to the Jharkhand-Bihar region, where he was eventually apprehended by the NIA in September.
The agency mentioned that Sharanjeet had received multiple consignments of grenades and explosives from overseas. Following his arrest, the NIA noted that he had concealed a pistol and three hand grenades at a location in the Gurdaspur district, which were subsequently recovered by investigators.
