New Delhi, Sept 15: Aam Aadmi Party MLA from Ajnala Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, accompanied by a delegation of local sarpanches, met Union Jal Shakti Minister C. R. Patil in New Delhi to press for the construction of a dam on the Ujh River in Jammu and Kashmir.
The legislator stated that unregulated floodwaters from the Ujh River cause severe destruction across Ajnala, disrupting lives, agricultural livelihoods, and regional industrial growth. Dhaliwal affirmed that building the Ujh Dam would offer a permanent solution to seasonal flooding while boosting irrigation, power generation, and local employment opportunities.
Dhaliwal asserted that he had previously raised the border constituency’s concerns with the Governors of Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir. The delegation urged the central government to expedite approvals and resource allocations to safeguard border communities from recurring flood losses.
