Ludhiana, Sept 15: Punjab successfully met its highest-ever peak electricity demand of 17,423 MW without imposing any power cuts due to supply deficits. Power Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond stated during a press conference in Ludhiana that round-the-clock uninterrupted power supply is running across residential, commercial, industrial, and agricultural sectors statewide.
The minister affirmed that all 10 state thermal units are functioning at full capacity following continuous repair work by technical teams to resolve recent operational glitches at two private power plants. State authorities maintained that the decision to purchase the Guru Amardas Thermal Plant proved vital in mitigating grid stress and preventing a severe power deficit during peak paddy season requirements.
Official data reveals that September power demand surged to 16,600 MW compared to the traditional 13,100 MW range observed in previous years. Power department representatives declared that despite central coal supply constraints and unallocated power shares, state distribution utilities successfully managed the 3,500 MW demand surge while providing extra daily operational supply hours to farming communities.
