Chandigarh, Jan 28: Chandigarh Police have confirmed that 26 schools across the city were targeted with threatening emails and phone calls warning of potential bomb attacks. Following the reports, security teams were immediately deployed to the institutions, successfully clearing 10 schools after finding no suspicious objects on the premises.

Earlier in the day, three schools were evacuated after the threat mails turning to be hoax.

“So far, of 26 schools, security teams have conducted thorough checks at 10 of these schools, and no suspicious objects have been found,” SSP Kanwardeep Kaur said. She noted that the city’s cyber cell is currently investigating the email IDs used to send the threats.

An FIR has been registered at the Sector 17 police station as part of the ongoing investigation.

Authorities are working to trace all digital leads to identify the perpetrators behind the messages. When asked about previous threats involving the High Court and District Court, the SSP mentioned that those probes are also underway.

“The police are actively tracing all digital leads to identify the perpetrators,” Kaur said. She added that the department is working to connect all leads to gain a comprehensive understanding of these incidents.

The police administration has urged school authorities, students, and parents to stay composed while the inspections continue. Security protocols have been scaled up across all educational hubs in the city to ensure a safe environment.

“There is no need to panic. Chandigarh police are fully alert, and security measures have been strengthened at all schools. Teams are continuously inspecting school premises, and the situation is under constant monitoring,” the SSP said.
