CHANDIGARH, March 13, 2026 — Celebrations erupted across Punjab on Friday following the state government’s announcement of a new monthly financial assistance scheme for women. In a move that local residents described as a major step toward economic independence, women in various cities and villages took to the streets with traditional ‘Jaago’ processions and folk dance to mark the decision.

The Punjab Government stated that the program is designed to provide direct support to women across different social categories. Under the new guidelines, women in the general category will receive ₹1,000 per month, while those from Scheduled Caste backgrounds will be granted ₹1,500 monthly. Officials affirmed that the funds will be deposited directly into the bank accounts of beneficiaries to maintain transparency and prevent any involvement of intermediaries.

Beneficiaries participating in the festivities expressed their gratitude toward Aam Aadmi Party National Convener Arvind Kejriwal and Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann for the initiative. Many women stated that the monthly allowance would offer significant relief for household expenses and daily needs.

“For the first time, a government has taken such a concrete step in favor of women,” a group of celebrants maintained during a procession. They asserted that the financial aid would not only assist with day-to-day costs but also boost the confidence of women by providing them with a dedicated source of personal funds. The government declared that the scheme is a milestone in its commitment to making the women of Punjab economically stronger and more self-reliant.
