Sangrur, March 31: Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann announced on Tuesday that Punjab’s police response time will now reach the six-minute mark, aligning the state with international standards seen in the United States and Europe. The declaration came as the Chief Minister inaugurated a fleet of 508 new Emergency Response Vehicles (ERVs) in Sangrur, a move designed to overhaul rapid-response capabilities across all 28 police districts.
The new fleet, which operates under the Dial-112 system, represents a significant portion of a ₹327.70 crore investment made in police infrastructure over the last four years. These vehicles are equipped with high-tech tools including GPS trackers, dash cameras, and mobile data terminals to ensure seamless coordination during emergencies.
The Chief Minister asserted that the modernization of the force is a primary reason for the state’s improved security climate.
“Tata Steel setting up its second-largest plant in Punjab is proof of strong law and order,” Mann affirmed.
During the event, the Chief Minister also called for a “social boycott” of those involved in the drug trade, describing the menace as “drug terrorism.” He noted that the state’s conviction rate in drug-related cases has climbed to 87 percent, which he maintained is the highest in the country.
“Our fight is to protect Punjab’s young generation, and it will continue relentlessly without pause,” Mann declared.
The Chief Minister also compared his administration’s spending to previous governments, stating that the current investment of over ₹327 crore far exceeds the allocations made by previous Akali and Congress regimes. He further announced that the state plans to integrate Artificial Intelligence into policing to further enhance efficiency and maintain Punjab’s status as one of the safest regions for investment and residency.
