Sangrur, April 3: Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann inaugurated the Sant Attar Singh Ji Maharaj Hospital in Cheema village on Thursday, establishing a modern medical hub designed to serve 50,000 residents across the region. The facility, constructed with an investment of ₹11.70 crore, aims to provide specialized care to 15 villages that previously lacked immediate access to advanced medical services.

The 30-bed hospital features dedicated emergency units and mother-child wards, significantly upgrading the healthcare landscape in Sangrur district. During his inspection of the wards, the Chief Minister interacted with patients to evaluate the quality of services and the availability of equipment.

“Earlier, due to lack of facilities, patients were referred to Sangrur, Patiala, and Ludhiana, but now treatment will be available here itself,” Chief Minister Mann affirmed. He noted that the hospital is equipped with contemporary machinery to ensure local residents no longer need to travel long distances for critical care.

The government further announced plans to expand medical education in the area. The Chief Minister declared that work on a medical college named after Sant Baba Attar Singh would commence shortly. He maintained that the state has finalized arrangements to expedite this project on a war footing.

The new hospital replaces a smaller center established in 1975, expanding its capacity and scope to include pediatric, ENT, and dental specialties. Beyond physical ailments, the facility will provide diagnostic services such as X-rays and blood tests, alongside dedicated support for de-addiction.

Cabinet Minister Aman Arora and Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh accompanied the Chief Minister during the ceremony. The inauguration is part of a broader state initiative to redirect tax revenue into public infrastructure, including schools and roads.
